Hello! So now that fall is here I had an urge to redo all of my home decor. But since that can't happen, I decided I would focus on the fireplace, which was starting to look a little dated. I don't know about any of you but my fireplace is one of my absolute favorite things to decorate. After spending a little bit too much time on Pinterest to gather some ideas, I came across a post explaining how to cover up the brass on your fireplace. I was excited to say the least, I have hated the brass on the fireplace since I have moved in and now it's gone forever!
Basically I just painted a lot.
Here's a before picture:
My first step was painting the brass. If you are painting a fireplace you must use a special kind of paint that can withstand heat. I used Rust-Oleum Specialty Bar-B-Que Black Satin Hight Heat Spray Paint. The reason I choose to use spray paint was because it was cheaper than the regular paint and I thought it would be a lot easier that painting with a brush. I wouldn't recommend this if you don't have good ventilation in the room you are working in, instead use the regular Rust-Oleum High Heat paint with a brush or foam brush. Make sure that you tape off everything that you do not want painted.
I then painted the fireplace a basic Semi-Gloss white and took what leftover spray Black High Heat spray paint I had and sprayed a tall vase that I had and filled it with some sticks from Hobby Lobby.
The Marilyn Monroe picture I have had since shortly after I moved in almost 6 years ago. Although I still appreciate Marilyn Monroe, it was time for something new! I took some leftover black chalk paint from a project long ago and painted it. I then used a stencil from Michael's and chalk for the pattern.
The garland was a DIY project from A Beautiful Mess and the picture is one of my engagement photos on a metal canvas! (Miss Lyss Photography)
